Esports tournament organiser BLAST has announced plans to host two esports events in Singapore across 2024 and 2025.
The two events will be top-tier CS2 and Dota 2 tournaments, the BLAST World Final (CS2) in 2024 and the BLAST Dota Slam (Dota 2) in 2025.
To run these events BLAST has partnered with AEG Presents Asia, one of the largest entertainment companies in the region. The idea behind the partnership is to ensure that BLAST works with the premier destinations and partners with leading companies in the region.
BLAST’s events in the country will also be supported by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB). According to a release, the two companies aim to make Singapore an emerging hub for esports and gaming. By bringing some of the top esports brands and organisations to Singapore, BLAST aims to foster local growth and encourage other organisers to target the country as a host for other esports events.
Whilst BLAST may aim to grow esports in the region, Singapore is already no stranger to playing host to much larger esports companies. Blizzard Entertainment (marketing), Electronic Arts (marketing), Garena, Razer, Riot Games, and Ubisoft, as well as many other brands already have headquarters or offices in the country.
The country also boasts the Singapore Esports Association (SGEA) which is the national governing body for esports in Singapore and has hosted the following events: VALORANT Champions Tour: APAC Challengers, ONE Esports Singapore Major, Free Fire World Series 2021 Singapore, M3 World Championship, FUT Champions Cup and more.
BLAST continues to expand its operations in esports through multiple countries and esports titles, announcing recently it will run a TopSpin 2K25 esports event, revamp its CS2 circuit and that it will host a CS2 Major in Austin next year.
Ms Ong Ling Lee, Executive Director for Sports and Wellness with the Singapore Tourism Board, said: “We are excited to host the BLAST Premier World Final and the BLAST Dota Slam in Singapore. The Counter-Strike event marks the first BLAST-branded event in Southeast Asia and the inaugural Counter-Strike tournament series in the region, solidifying Singapore’s position as a world-class esports destination.
“We are confident that the international participants and their legions of fans will have a memorable experience in Singapore, immersing themselves in the diverse and dynamic offerings of our city.”
