The Esports World Cup, an ongoing multi-title esports event organised by the Esports World Cup Foundation, has launched a mobile app.

The app enables fans to check tournament scores and watch events that are currently taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

According to a release, the creation of an Esports World Cup app will ‘ensure the best possible fan experience’ for those attending the event and those watching from home. Alongside its live streaming capabilities and an overview of the tournament schedule, the app also allows fans to purchase tickets for the remaining competitions.

The inaugural Esports World Cup began in July and runs for eight weeks. Remaining tournaments include Apex Legends, Fortnite, Street Fighter 6, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The event totals $60m (~£46.9m) in prize money split across 21 tournaments and its Club competition.

The Esports World Cup Foundation, the organisers of the Esports World Cup, is backed by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund. This has resulted in criticism from teams and industry stakeholders due to Saudi Arabia’s human rights record.

In terms of viewership figures, the Esports World Cup’s League of Legends tournament broke one million peak viewers while the Overwatch 2 event peaked at 100,000.

Thamer Alshuaibi, Chief Admin Officer of the Esports World Cup Foundation, spoke on the launch of the app: “The Esports World Cup has been an unparalleled success, with the best clubs featuring the best players producing matches in elite, must-watch tournaments that have captivated gamers across the globe.

“The app has instantly become everyone on the ground’s go-to for every little bit of EWC news, and I know that will be the same for so many other like-minded gamers everywhere in the world.”
