The University of Warwick has announced it will host the TCL World Esports Championship at its campus.
The event will feature a collegiate EA Sports FC 25 tournament involving educational establishments across the country.
The opening rounds of the UK National FC25 Tournament begin on October 12th and take place across two weekends before concluding on October 26th. The UK National FC 25 Tournament also features a £1,000 prize pool and a TCL television.
Colleges and universities competing are required to organise an in-house competition featuring at least 16 players. In addition, the University of Warwick’s Esports Centre will also pay accommodation and travel expenses to the top four players competing in the grand final.
TCL is no stranger to supporting collegiate esports initiatives across the globe. In February 2020, the electronics company sponsored the LetsPlay.Live High School League, an Australian collegiate esports competition. The company has also sponsored other esports tournaments such as the now-defunct Call of Duty World League (CWL). TCL HUAXING (a gaming monitor sub-brand of TCL) also sponros League of Legends’ LPL.
In recent years, the University of Warwick has hosted a range of esports initiatives at its facility. In 2023, Esports Insider collaborated with the university on the inaugural ESI Next Gen conference exploring the crossover between esports and education. In October 2023, it partnered with Korean esports organisation Gen.G to host a winter esports camp for students.
