OverActive Media, the parent company of Movistar KOI and Toronto Ultra, has announced revenues of CAD $5m (~£2.7m) for Q1 2025, an increase of 37% from the same period last year.

Despite the increased revenues, the organisation has still recorded a comprehensive loss of just under CAD $2m (~£1.1m). This is, however, up from Q1 2024’s loss of CAD $4.5m (~£2.4m).

OverActive Media noted that its increased revenues are due to its ‘strong sponsorship and digital merchandise sales’ as well as revenue from hosting the Call of Duty League Major I in Madrid with Toronto Ultra. Full quarter contributions from last year’s acquisition of Movistar Riders and KOI were also noted as a reason for the increase.

Speaking on its comprehensive loss, OverAcrive Media noted that the improvement was driven by these higher revenues as well as cost management measures. Moreover, OverActive stated that it reported a CAD $1.7m (~913,000) gain from Euro-denominated assets due to foreign-currency translations.

Movistar KOI’s Global Expansion

Throughout Q12025 (January 1st – March 31st), OverActive Media looked to expand its borders outside of Europe and North America. This included launching Movistar KOI channels on Weibo and Bilibili to establish a presence in China, as well as entering LATAM with a Free Fire team. In April, Movistar KOI also hosted an LEC Roadtrip event in Madrid for the ongoing League of Legends Spring Split.

“Q1 demonstrated the strength of our global model,” commented Adam Adamou, CEO and Co-Founder of OverActive Media.

Outside of Q1 2025, OverActive Media also launched Fénix Club Gaming, a fan platform that Adamou has already praised in the financial report for its impact.

He said: “The early success of our subscription-based Fénix Club, which exceeded internal expectations in its first month, is a testament to the loyalty and engagement we have built with fans.

“With greater predictability in our revenue streams, improving operating leverage, and disciplined cost control, we are well-positioned to meet our 2025 growth and profitability targets.”

However, despite positive developments from the company. Movistar KOI recently faced serious workplace allegations ranging from unsanitary conditions to missing payments. This has led to an internal investigation by the organisation of the executive management of its League of Legends team being carried out in Spain.
