The third day of VALORANT Masters Toronto saw North American team Sentinels advance to Playoffs after defeating a valiant Bilibili Gaming from VCT China.

In the second Swiss Stage series of the day, VCT Pacific’s Gen.G Esports left Paper Rex behind to follow Sentinels into the Playoffs bracket.

Bilibili Gaming Takes Sentinels to a Third Map

Although Sentinels became the first Swiss Stage team to make Playoffs at Masters Toronto, its journey there was far from easy. Today’s series proved particularly challenging as the VCT Americas squad had to pull off a 2-1 comeback against Bilibili Gaming.

BLG’s map pick, Icebox, was reminiscent of yesterday’s Split between Sentinels and Wolves Esports. Once again, the North American team had a slow start on defence after losing the first pistol round. This time, Sentinels’ double-initiator team composition could not build enough momentum on attack against BLG’s dominant 8-4 half-time score. Consistent frags from Wang ‘whz’ Haozhe on Jett and Wang ‘rushia’ Xiaojie on Harbor allowed BLG to secure its map pick 13-9.

In the second game, however, Sentinels showcased why Lotus has historically been one of the team’s strongest maps. In spite of another pistol round win from BLG on attack, Sentinels gained early momentum, ending the half 7-5. On its attack side, Sentinels fully came to life at this point. With efficient utility usage, Sentinels claimed its map pick 13-5.

The series came down to Lotus, where Sentinels managed to win both pistol rounds. Still, BLG combined excellent map control with bold plays to achieve a 7-5 half. Ironically, Sentinels often punished such risk-taking in the second half. As the most competitive map between the two teams, many of the final rounds were determined by micro decisions. Ultimately, BLG seemed to crumble under the rising pressure and was defeated 9-13.

In the second series of the day, Gen.G Esports forced the Paper Rex train to take an involuntary turn into the lower Swiss Stage bracket. The ninth face-off between Pacific’s methodical strategists and the region’s dark horse saw Gen.G emerge victorious (2-0).

The series kicked off with an incredible display of mechanical precision on Ascent. Starting on attack, Gen.G dominated on its map pick with thorough preparation and impactful frags. Despite a devasting 4-8 half and two pistol round losses, PRX picked up the pace on its attack side. One round away from overtime, the train was ultimately shut down 11-13 by a Stinger half-buy from Gen.G.

During the second game, Gen.G confidently dealt with its opponent’s signature fast-paced playstyle. Although PRX had picked Icebox, the Pacific roster was consistently stopped in its attack executes. Meanwhile, Gen.G impressed with clean mechanics and a 9-3 half. Clearly prepared for any strategies PRX had previously shown on Icebox, Gen.G wrapped up the map with a decisive 13-3.

Kim ‘t3xture’ Na-ra delivered an outstanding performance on Jett throughout the entire series. The duelist player recorded a combined kill-death ratio of 45/25 and a 296 average combat score (ACS).

Which Teams Can Still Make Playoffs?

With BLG and PRX suffering their first defeats at Masters Toronto, they must qualify for Playoffs through the third round of Swiss Stage matches on June 11th. However, their future opponents must first be determined via tomorrow’s elimination games.
