British Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) player William ‘Mezii’ Merriman has become the first esports player to receive their own customised X hashtag.
The Team Vitality player has two hashtags featuring a yellow and black logo showing an ‘M’ with a small crown above it.
Mezii unveiled the hashtags in a post on July 23rd, 2025, displaying the logo that appears next to the ‘kingmezii’ and ‘mEZii’ hashtags. X’s official UK account was also among many notable names that have celebrated Mezii’s achievement.
In addition to the new tags, the player also teased an announcement set to take place on July 25th.
Becoming the first esports player to receive their own hashtags builds on a successful 2025 for Mezii. In June, he became the first player from the UK to win a Counter-Strike Major after Team Vitality achieved victory at the BLAST.tv Austin Major.
In addition to the Major, the team has remained unbeaten since February, winning three Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) events alongside BLAST Open Spring, BLAST Rivals Sprint, and ESL Pro League Season 21.
Mezii is one of the most successful esports players from the UK. According to Esports Earnings, he is the second-most-winning player, taking home $935,135 (~£690,868) in prize money throughout his career.
Former Fortnite player Jaden ‘Wolfiez’ Ashman tops the charts, earning $1.3m (~£960,469) after finishing second in the 2019 Fortnite World Cup Finals.
What Next For Mezii?
For Mezii, attention turns to IEM Cologne 2025, where Team Vitality is one of 24 teams competing in one of Counter-Strike’s longest-standing tournaments.
Competing teams will battle it out for a share of a $1m (~£738,460) prize pool and a chance to climb the Valve Regional Standings (VRS). Heading into the event, Team Vitality tops the rankings and is widely considered to be the best team in the world. A win in Cologne would mark the team’s ninth tournament victory of the year.
