Valhalla, the flagship MMORPG from the Floki ecosystem, has announced its inaugural competitive event, featuring a $150,000 (~£111,500) prize pool.
Valhalla Tournament #1 is a further push for player engagement following the game’s recent mainnet launch. Qualifiers are scheduled for September 30th, 2025, with the main event concluding on October 4th-5th.
Schedule, Qualifiers and Winnings
The qualifying rounds will utilise an automatic matchmaking system, randomly pairing players over three rounds.
The top 64 players based on victories and tie-breakers will advance to a single-elimination bracket for the main event.
The prize distribution looks to reward a broad range of skill levels, with the champion earning $50,000 and players placing 33rd to 64th receiving $400 each. Additionally, the top 500 players who do not qualify will receive $10 in $FLOKI tokens as an incentive for participation.
Valhalla itself is a browser-based, play-to-earn game based on Norse mythology. Its gameplay integrates traditional MMORPG elements like character progression with blockchain mechanics. A core aspect involves exploring the world to tame and battle creatures known as “Veras,” which players then use in strategic combat.
“This is not just about putting a game on-chain – it’s about making blockchain gaming better and delivering on the promise made to our community that we will fix many of the problems found within the blockchain P2E gaming space,” Pedro Vidal, Community Relations Officer at FLOKI had explained previously.
This high-stakes tournament serves as a central pillar of the game’s strategy to build a sustainable competitive ecosystem, following nearly 36 months of development.
The tournament announcement follows several strategic initiatives aimed at boosting Valhalla’s profile.
These include high-profile partnerships with established esports organisations like Alliance, Method, and OG Esports. For instance, its collaboration with Alliance was an extension of a previous partnership, which will now see Valhalla secure more content and deeper interaction with the esports team.
Furthermore, a preview stream featuring Hafthor Bjornsson (‘The Mountain’ from Game of Thrones) on his popular Twitch channel occurred prior to the mainnet launch.
