Georgia-based healthcare provider Piedmont has partnered with Atlanta-based North American esports organisation Ghost Gaming.

As a result, the healthcare provider will become the exclusive healthcare partner of the Georgia Esports League (GEL).

The deal marks Piedmont’s first foray into the esports industry. The company will collaborate with the organisation to provide guidance for students competing in the GEL. The initiative will cover topics such as nutrition, physical health and mental well-being.

The GEL was launched in August by Ghost Gaming, production company Skillshot Media, Georgia’s Department of Economic Development and the Georgia Film Academy. The league is open to all two-year and four-year colleges in Georgia, and includes curriculum pathways and workforce development alongside competitive fixtures.

GEL forms part of a push by Georgia’s Department of Economic Development to build out the state’s esports industry, Ghost Gaming CEO Todd Harris told Esports Insider during its launch.

Over the past 12 months, Ghost Gaming has secured deals with the likes of Generation Esports and energy drink brand G FUEL. Moreover, the organisation acquired esports content firm One Percent in a deal that saw Julian ‘Aeolus’ Castro become the organisation’s Managing Director of Content and Community.

In addition to partnering with Ghost Gaming, Piedmont will attend Esports Summit, an event taking place in Atlanta from November 17th-18th prior to DreamHack Atlanta.

Todd Harris, CEO of Ghost Gaming, spoke on the deal: “Partnering with Piedmont allows us to highlight the importance of physical health and mental health with our Ghost Gaming competitors and across the broader gaming community.

“Piedmont’s capabilities and health care network extends across the entire state, allowing us to activate and educate with colleges across Georgia and help establish the right wellness practices at those college esports programs.”
