Game publisher EA’s Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) has announced that the Apex Legends esports circuit is returning to London in July.

The Split 2 Playoffs will take place in the Cooper Box Arena once again, where 40 teams will compete for a $1m (~£798,500) prize pool.

The Split 2 Playoffs take place on July 13th-16th and feature a group stage, double-elimination bracket, and Match Point Finals where the eventual champion is crowned.

In addition to the $1m prize pool, teams will also compete for points that contribute to the season-ending Apex Legends Global Series Year 3 Championship. Alongside the tournament, the ALGS has also unveiled an expanded fan experience containing a range of activations including giveaways and opportunities to meet players.

The Split 2 Playoffs is the second event to take place in London during the 2023 season. The Split 1 Playoffs took place in February with North American organisation TSM taking the victory.

This the latest in a long line of major esports events that have headed to the Copper Box Arena. Alongside Apex Legends, the former Olympic venue has previously hosted events for Rocket League, Call of Duty and CS:GO.

When Apex Legends headed to London in February, the Split 1 Playoffs recorded a peak viewership of 542,959 according to Esports Charts. The figure is the fourth-highest for an Apex Legends event.

Tickets for the event go on sale on May 15th. Single-day tickets range from £20 to £40 while a four-day ticket will cost £100.

On May 4th, Digiday reported that EA had shut down months of talks with teams about introducing a revenue-sharing initiative for Apex Legends esports, frustrating teams. Teams had requested better terms for selling in-game branded items, which prompted publisher EA and developer Respawn to pull the plug entirely, Digiday reported.
