North American esports and gaming company GameSquare Esports has named Lou Schwartz as its new Board Chairman.

Prior to this role, Schwartz served as both a board member and the President of the company. His tenure officially commenced on July 7th.

Schwartz came into his previous position as President following the merger of GameSquare and Engine Gaming & Media, where he was the multi-platform media company’s CEO at the time. Preceding this, he held a comparable position at Frankly, which was subsequently acquired by Torque Esports in 2020, leading to the formation of Engine Gaming & Media.

Throughout his career, Schwartz has primarily focused on strategy, marketing, product, and finance development within both developed and emerging markets.

Taking on the role of Board Chairman, Schwartz succeeds Tom Rogers, who will transition to a regular member of GameSquare’s Board of Directors. Apart from his involvement with GameSquare, Rogers is known for his contributions to business news coverage on a global scale, notably with the creation of CNBC and MSNBC.

GameSquare is a holding company that manages various properties within the esports, gaming, and entertainment industries. The company’s shares are publicly traded on both the NASDAQ and the Toronto Stock Exchange Venture (TSXV) exchanges.

Following Engine Media & Gaming’s acquisition in 2022, rumours are now circulating about GameSquare’s potential plans to acquire popular North American esports organisation FaZe Clan.

The news comes after a turbulent period for FaZe Clan since its initial listing as a publicly traded company on NASDAQ in July 2022. If these reports prove true, Schwartz’s expertise in mergers and acquisitions could undoubtedly be of great value to GameSquare.
