Indian esports and gaming company Skyesports and collegiate esports tournament platform MOGO have joined forces to host the MOGO National Championship.
The collegiate esports tournament will feature 16 colleges competing in VALORANT from September 18th-22nd for a share of its INR 10 lakhs (~£9,629) prize pool.
Taking place at the Lovely Professional University in Phagwara, the MOGO National Championship sees 16 colleges faceoff nside the University’s 2000-seat arena.
Qualifiers for the event saw over 100 teams register, with the 16 remaining teams set to play in a single-elimination bracket to determine the eventual champion.
According to a release, the National Championship aims to ‘bridge the gap’ between traditional sports and esports in the country and the surrounding region. Skyesports and MOGO plan on positioning the event into the ‘Elite Four’ conference championship calendar alongside the likes of volleyball, basketball, and kabaddi.
Skyesports is no stranger to hosting esports events across India. In June 2023, it announced the return of the Skyesports Champions Series and in April 2023, it launched the Skyesports Masters, India’s first franchised CS:GO league.
Shiva Nandy, Founder and CEO of Skyesports, spoke on the news: “Having a well-developed ecosystem for collegiate Esports is important to nurture talent and grow Esports from the grassroots level.
