Jonas Gundersen, COO of esports company NIP Group, has announced that he is stepping down from his position.

Via a social media post, Gundersen noted that he wants to pursue another venture in 2024, but did not announce details regarding his new move just yet.

Gundersen is a well-known face in esports, having played professionally in Counter-Strike under the nickname “calc” from 2002 to 2006. Since then his career spanned multiple industries. Gundersen founded startups, worked as a poker coach and recorded a music album. He previously worked at Danish esports organisation North Esports as COO before joining Ninjas in Pyjamas in 2020.

Gundersen has also amassed more than 15,000 followers on social media page LinkedIn, where he often shares opinions on leadership and entrepreneurship.

Continuing with the trend, Gundersen shared via social media that “the timing is right” to leave the well-known Swedish esports brand and “head for the next chapter” in his career.

Gundersen did not announce his next step, but noted: “My next move involves driving impact and creating value across a variety of entities, and while I can’t reveal too much just yet, 2024 is already filled with inspiring travels, people and projects. I am genuinely excited about all the positive and ambitious vibes out there, and I feel more than ever, that the future of esports looks incredibly bright.”

During his time at the company, Gundersen was an important part of the Ninjas in Pyjamas’ merger with Chinese esports brand ESV5, which led to the creation of the NIP Group. The move also saw NIP join Riot Games’ LPL, League of Legends’ franchised Chinese league. Earlier this year, the esports organisation announced a Web3-focused deal with XBorg to create a new fan engagement app.

In an interview with Esports Insider in June 2022, Gundersen shared that his main goal with Ninjas in Pyjamas was to “wake up a sleeping giant”.

ESI Ranking System
We’ve created a ranking system to help you quickly know how good each gambling platform is. As gamblers ourselves, we know which factors matter most to you, so we follow a best-in-class methodology to test each one with no stone unturned. Once done, we then rank each platform based on the following tiers:
  • A-Tier High-quality sites that deliver a top experience every time. They boast strong performance, nice features, and reliable support, but are just shy of perfection.
  • B-Tier Solid platforms that are worth a spin. They’re safe, fun, and functional, but may be lacking advanced features or have minor drawbacks.
  • S-Tier Reserved for elite operators only. These go well beyond the norm with lucrative bonuses, rewarding promotions, lightning-fast payouts, and a flawless experience overall.
