Ninjas in Pyjamas (NiP) has created a petition for Valve to bring the Cache map back to Counter-Strike 2 (CS2).
The map was removed from the Active Duty pool in 2019 and hasn’t returned in the last six years despite the map’s creator finishing an updated version.
The Swedish esports organisation posted a tongue-in-cheek open letter to Counter-Strike’s developer and publisher, along with launching a petition, which has already gained traction among fans who also want Cache to return.
“Cache holds a special place in the heart of all CS fans across the globe,” said Ninjas in Pyjamas on social media. “It’s a map that provides a unique blend of strategy, competition and excitement.”
“Cache (or cayche if you’re SPUNJ) needs to make a comeback. Not only will billions of players return to CS, it’ll bring a smile to all the players who are stuck queuing Mirage again and again.”
Despite the petition’s jovial nature, calls for Cache’s return have continued among players throughout the year. In July, Valve replaced Anubis with Overpass to inject a breath of fresh air into the Active Duty pool, but the demand for Mirage’s removal in favour of Cache has remained.
Cache In CS2 Esports
Since the launch of CS2 in September 2023, Cache has yet to make an appearance at any tournament due to it not appearing within the Active Duty map pool.
The map is home to several memorable moments that have transcended Counter-Strike esports, including Oleksandr ‘S1mple‘ Kostyliev scoring a 1v2 no-scope clutch against Fnatic at ESL One Cologne 2016.
Despite the regular requests from fans to reintroduce Cache to Active Duty, Valve has yet to decide whether the map is ready for competitive play once again.
