Samsung partners with Twitch Rivals to promote mobile capabilities

Global electronics manufacturer Samsung has partnered with Twitch for its ongoing Twitch Rivals North America event.

As part of the deal, Samsung’s Galaxy device will be the exclusive mobile device partner of the event.

According to a release, Samsung and Twitch will ‘reinvent the future of mobile gaming’. The one-year partnership will feature exclusive mobile-gaming challenges and events. Samsung will use its Galaxy 5G-enabled devices for events such as ‘Mobile Mondays brought to you by Samsung’ — a year-long series of tournaments — and ‘Mobile Gaming Heroes’, which will begin later this year.

Upcoming Twitch Rivals events include the Twitch Rivals Mobile Challenge, powered by Samsung Galaxy 5G devices; the Call of Duty: Warzone Season 7 Showdown (commencing today); and the Streamer Bowl II Playoffs (Fortnite), among others.

Jude Buckley, Executive Vice President of Mobile, Samsung Electronics America commented: “Our flagship Galaxy devices help gamers win, with high-resolution screens and advanced processing power to deliver an amazing gaming experience. And of course 5G can help to deliver the low-latency environment gamers want, especially in multi-player environments.

“Now, layering in an exciting partnership with Twitch Rivals, we are well-poised to show off Samsung’s power and performance of our mobile product portfolio.”

Twitch Rivals began yesterday with its League of Legends competition. The tournament features popular streamers such as Tyler ‘Tyler1’ Steinkamp who have created their own teams for the event.

“As livestreaming and esports continue to grow exponentially, we look forward to working with Samsung to help the engaged and dedicated gaming audience access their Twitch Rivals content wherever and whenever they want it.”

In May last year, Samsung teamed with esports organisation T1 to be the team’s official display partner. The company also has a history of sponsoring some of the world’s biggest League of Legends teams, including Samsung Blue and Samsung White in South Korea.

In September last year, Twitch Rivals was sponsored by Capital One, Mountain Dew Game Fuel, Verizon, and more. 

Esports Insider says: Mobile gaming is perhaps the hottest corner of the esports market. Titles like Arena of Valor and Mobile Legends have boasted incredible viewership in the last few months. It makes sense for Samsung to showcase its mobile-gaming capabilities; North America is nowhere near South Asia in terms of mobile-esports viewership, but its rise in the West feels inevitable.
