Whether on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch, there are a few ways to get your hands on Fortnite free skins without burning a hole in your wallet. We’re breaking down every single free skin that’s currently available in Fortnite and how you can unlock them.

Fortnite might be free-to-play, but the game’s many cosmetics cost V-Bucks, and those tend to cost real cash. Still, if you have the know-how, there are ways to claim free skins in Fortnite without needing to get the wallet out.

There are many legit ways to unlock free skins in Fortnite, from limited-time events and competitions, although note that not all methods work at all times.

Epic Games often drops exclusive free Fortnite skins through special events and competitive tournaments. All you have to do is place well or complete a few simple challenges, and boom, you’ve got an easy free skin without spending a single V-Buck. 

While the Battle Pass itself costs V-Bucks for the premium version, you can earn enough free rewards during the season to cover the cost of the next one. Grind your way through the free track, or save your earned V-Bucks, and you’ll get Fortnite free skins by playing consistently. 

When active, Fortnite’s Refer-a-Friend program lets you invite new (or returning) players to the world of Fortnite. Upon successfully creating an account and playing together, you can snag exclusive skins, emotes, or other cosmetics simply by sharing the fun and completing quests. 

While Epic Games rarely gives away free skins itself, online content creators and streamers may host giveaways for their followers, often involving Fortnite free skins or V-Bucks. Always check that these giveaways are legit and never share personal details like your Epic Games account password. 

Epic Games sometimes partners with brands like Lego, Marvel, or Xbox to offer skin bundles. These promos usually require a subscription, purchase, or code redemption, but the skin itself is free to claim. Watch Fortnite’s official socials like X to catch these limited-time offers. 

Here are all the free Fortnite skins currently available as of January 2026. We’ll update this list when new skins are available to unlock. 

The Explorer Emilie free Fortnite skin launched alongside the LEGO Fortnite game mode. To unlock this skin, all players must do is link their Epic Games Account to an existing LEGO account. Once this is completed, this free skin will automatically be added to their Locker. 

The Mr. Dappermint skin can be unlocked the same way as Explorer Emilie – two for the price of one, aka nothing! Like the Explorer Emilie skin, players will also automatically get a LEGO Mr. Dappermint variant. 

Earning the Trailblazer Tai skin requires more than free Fortnite skin codes – you’ll need to claim the True Explorers Quest Pack from the item shop and complete quests in the LEGO Fortnite game mode. Create a Survival World and complete the following to earn this free Fortnite skin: 

Once these quests have been completed, you’ll automatically unlock Trailblazer Tai in your Locker and its LEGO Fortnite counterpart.

Obtaining the Ghost Monks skin is a bit of a confusing endeavour, since you need to redeem the specific, new-style Fortnite Gift Cards. The regular V-Buck cards have been phased out and will no longer add the GHOST Monks skin to your account. 

There are also LEGO and Fall Guys variants of the GHOST Monks, should you take the cosmetic into other modes. It should also be noted that the GHOST Monks outfit is separate from the Shadow Monks skin, which can be bought in-store. The descriptions of the skins are different, with GHOST Monks’ saying “A super-secretive sock monkey.”

We put an asterisk next to the Mad Moxxi Bundle because you technically do need to spend quite a bit of cash to get it, but it is technically a free Fortnite skin. To get the Mad Moxxi Bundle, you need to buy Borderlands 4 through the Epic Games store. The bundle will then drop into your connected Fortnite account. 

If a website promises free Fortnite skins just for entering your Epic Games login or completing shady “surveys,” they’re 100% a scam. To stay safe and secure, Epic Games never gives away skins this way; stick to official methods like in-game events, promos, and Battle Pass rewards. 

As of January 2026, the free Fortnite skins scene is a little thin on the ground. The LEGO collaboration continues to do the heavy lifting, but these skins, as part of the collaboration, are truly free. There are also those that are free by a technicality, which require players to sink money into things outside of Fortnite, but the hope is that the rest of 2026 will add more free goodies.
