Are hero abilities coming to Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 4?

Fortnite and Epic Games have always had their fingers on the pulse of pop culture, tapping into popular franchises and collaborating with the biggest brands in the world like Marvel, anime, or DC. 

Now, with Marvel Rivals dominating the hero shooter genre, is Fortnite going to follow suit and introduce superpowers to the battle royale? Well, leaks for the upcoming Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 4 seem to think so, where guns take a backseat and abilities are centre stage. 

So what’s coming next? Let’s dive into the leaks and rumours, possibly heading to the Island next season.  

As of now, we’re on Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 3, which kicked off on May 2, 2025. This season, dubbed “Galactic Battle,” is Star Wars-themed, bringing tons of themed content to the battle-royale, including the free First Order Stormtrooper skin.

This season was launched to celebrate Star Wars Day on May 4, and will end on June 7 with the Death Star Sabotage live event and Emperor Palpatine’s defeat. This will be the shortest non-OG season Fortnite has ever had, lasting only 35 days. 

As such, many players are already turning their attention to the Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 4 release date on June 7/8, and what they can expect from the new season. 

Major Fortnite leaks have claimed that Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 4 will be “superhero-themed,” with a dedicated Hero Academy. Here, players are rumoured to be able to take on customisable abilities, where traditional weapons and gunplay will be swapped in favour of ability-driven combat. 

All eyes are on the rumoured “Hero Abilities,” which will be found like loot and weapons. Their rarity may correspond to how powerful they are: 

According to the renowned Fortnite leaker HYPEX, these abilities will not use ammo, so they’ll have unlimited uses until they’re dropped or swapped out. These leaks also suggest that the new season will be completely gun-free, replaced by these abilities entirely, adding a new dynamic to the battle royale. 

In terms of the Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 4 Battle Pass, there are leaks suggesting a collaboration with the upcoming DC film “Superman 2025,” potentially bringing another variant of the Man of Steel to the Fortnite universe. With this skin, there are rumours that it’ll have the mythic ability to transform mid-flight, granting either super strength or prolonged flight durations. 

There are also reports of a Robin skin, as well as a female ‘Storm’ skin, with the game files pointing to Storm Portals and Storm Claws abilities integrated into it. 

If these rumours about Hero Abilities are true, it will signal the most radical meta-shift Fortnite has ever seen, bar Zero Build. 

These leaks have sparked hype in the community, with many players flooding social media asking Epic Games to fast-forward past the remainder of the Galactic Battle season to jump straight into the superhero action.

That being said, not everyone’s convinced. Some worry this gun-free shift could disrupt Fortnite’s ranked meta, while others claim Epic is running low on original ideas and “losing their creative touch,” despite the leaked Hero Abilities being a fresh twist for the game. As always, the Fortnite community is holding its breath for official confirmation from Epic. 

Fortnite is no stranger to superpowers and abilities. Back in Chapter 2: Season 4, we saw mythic powers with Fortnite’s collaboration with Marvel. Players could wield a variety of Mythic Powers tied to iconic heroes, blasting enemies with Iron Man’s Unibeam or tearing through builds with Wolverine’s Claws. These abilities were powerful and fun, but they were largely tied to specific bosses, limited spawns, and couldn’t be customised or swapped freely mid-match.

Fast forward to the leaks in the next Fortnite season, and Epic Games seems to be taking things up a notch. The rumoured Hero Abilities aren’t just one-off powers; they look to become the core gameplay mechanics for the season. Unlike past Mythics, which were singular and static, the new system seems to offer more variety, great player agency, and more strategy.

Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 4 is shaping up to be one of the boldest updates Epic has ever attempted, trading bullets for powers. No matter what happens, one thing’s clear: Fortnite is ready to shake up the meta in a big way.
