TL;DR

  • There are several rare skins in Fortnite that cannot be obtained anymore.
  • The rarest skins are those that had exclusivity, were limited edition, were previous battle pass skins, or skins that have licensing problems.
  • A lot of the earlier Fortnite skins from OG are particularly rare, as Fortnite did not have as many players in its early days.
  • Some rare skins do make reappearance in the in-game shop sometimes, such as Aerial Assault Trooper and Renegade Raider, which hadn’t been seen since 2017 until they were released again in 2026.
  • The rarest Fortnite skins in 2025 include Galaxy, World Warrior and Rue.

As of writing, there are over 2,500 Fortnite skins, and while most people probably have their favourites, trying to choose one can be tough. That said, with the sheer volume of skins and the fact that some are only available for a limited time, not all are equally common.

Fortnite has been active for almost a decade and is one of the biggest names in gaming, collaborating with virtually every major IP under the sun. As a result, some skins don’t appear anymore due to licensing issues or Epic Games deciding not to bring them back for various other reasons.

With this in mind, let’s have a look at the top 10 rarest Fortnite skins that you’ll be lucky to see, let alone have, for your games.

What makes a Fortnite skin rare?

Riot and Epic Games have finally returned the Arcane skins after almost 1,400 days of being vaulted / Image credit: Epic Games and Riot Games

There are several reasons why a Fortnite skin might become rare. These reasons are as follows:

  • Vaulted for a long period of time
  • Licensing issues
  • Exclusive promotions
  • Early OG Fortnite skins
  • Controversies
  • Exclusive battle pass rewards

All these reasons can lead to a Fortnite skin being incredibly rare. For the most part, these skins have a small chance of reappearing, no matter how rare they currently are. Having said that, there is a strong chance that these skins will never appear again, making them even rarer.

Rarest Fortnite skins in 2026

There are quite a lot of rare Fortnite skins, but the 10 skins we are going to look at are particularly noteworthy, as (at the time of writing) none of them can be obtained anymore.

10. Kratos

Kratos from God of War in Fortnite
Kratos from God of War hasn’t be seen in Fortnite for over five years / Image credit: Riot Games & PlayStation Studios
  • Release date: December 4, 2020
  • Last seen: March 19, 2021
  • Cost when available: 1,500 V-Bucks

Kratos arrived in Fortnite in late 2020 until early 2021, which seems odd in hindsight, given that this wasn’t close to the release dates of either God of War (April 2018) or Ragnarok (November 2022). He was in the shop as part of the Gaming Legends Series, which includes Lara Croft, Chun-Li, Master Chief, and others, but has remained one of the rarest.

As of writing, there have been over 1,700 days since Kratos last appeared in the shop, with Sony potentially not wanting Fortnite to have him return, as Aloy, another PlayStation character, hasn’t appeared in over 1,000 days. There is a chance that Kratos returns for either a new God of War game or the Amazon Prime series, but until then, he remains one of, if not the rarest Gaming Legend skin in Fortnite.

9. Travis Scott and Astro Jack

Travis Scott and Astro Jack from Fortnite
Though their disappearance could be due to exclusivity rights, these skins are unlikely to return as a show of solidarity to the victims of the Astroworld concert tragedy / Image credit: Epic Games and Travis Scott
  • Release date: April 22, 2020
  • Last seen: April 27, 2020
  • Cost when available: 1,500 V-Bucks (Travis Scott) and 2,000 V-Bucks (Astro Jack)

Travis Scott and his Astroworld persona, Astro Jack, are similar to Kratos in that plenty of players got them when they were released, but there isn’t much chance of seeing them again. After the “Astronomical” Travis Scott concert event, the skins were available in the Fortnite item shop. They stayed there for a week, but they haven’t returned since.

Many believe that the tragedy that occurred at Scott’s 2021 Astroworld festival – where a crowd crush led to 10 deaths and many injuries – may have played a part in keeping the skins locked in the vault. However, in 2023, Epic Games CEO and founder Tim Sweeney posted on X that “Travis Scott is welcome in Fortnite”, which suggests that the incident is not preventing the skin’s return.

It could be due to an exclusivity request on Scott’s side, or it could still have something to do with Epic distancing themselves from the concert incident. Either way, it is unlikely that these skins will return.

8. Rue

Rue from Fortnite
The design of the Rue outfit left a bad taste in people’s mouths, leading to its disappearance / Image credit: Epic Games
  • Release date: April 25, 2020
  • Last seen: May 27, 2020
  • Cost when available: 1,200 V-Bucks

The Rue skin rarity isn’t due to exclusivity or licensing issues. The problem arose from the design itself, with many players making connections between Rue’s long coat, gloves, boots, beret, and army patch with a military uniform associated with a certain WWII army. Looking at it now, it’s hard to believe that no one at Epic Games saw the links before the skin’s release.

This correlation was clearly unintentional, but the designs were obvious enough to cause Epic to practically bury the skin and have it blacklisted. We have yet to see the skin return since its release, and it can’t be chosen for a locker bundle either, meaning that Epic Games has practically wiped the Rue skin from history.

7. Eon, Royale Bomber, and Double Helix

Eon, Royale Bomber, and Double Helix from Fortnite
As these were console exclusive skins, it’s near impossible to get hold of them now unless you pay a huge amount of money / Image credit: Epic Games
  • Release dates: May 1, 2018 (Royale Bomber); September 27, 2018 (Eon); October 5, 2018 (Double Helix)
  • Last seen: With their respective console bundles from PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo
  • Cost when available: Never available separately in the Fortnite Item Shop

These three skins are separate, but they were all obtainable via similar means, so we are putting them together. Eon, Double Helix, and Royale Bomber were console-exclusive skins that could only be obtained if players purchased a particular console bundle.

Eon was an Xbox One exclusive, Double Helix was for the Nintendo Switch, and Royale Bomber was PlayStation 4. These skins could not be purchased in the item store, and there are no plans to ever include them there, making them particularly rare.

6. Black Knight

Black Knight from Fortnite
Only those who have been playing Fortnite since its early days and collecting battle pass rewards have access to Black Knight / Image credit: Epic Games
  • Release date: December 14, 2017
  • Last seen: February 21, 2018
  • Cost when available: Reward for earning Tier 70 in the Fort Knights battle pass

The Black Knight skin could only be obtained by players who got to the end of the 70-tier Chapter 1, Season 2 (Fort Knights) battle pass. Battle pass skins are rare, as most can only be obtained exclusively within that pass, so when the current season ends, they can’t be earned anymore.

The earlier battle pass skins are particularly rare, since Fortnite was still finding its feet back then. Seeing as Black Knight was the final, tier 70 reward, it would have taken a long grind to get it, hence why it’s rare.

5. Rogue Agent

Rogue Agent from Fortnite
As the first Starter Pack exclusive skin, Rogue Agent is something of a historical Fortnite skin as well as a rare one / Image credit: Epic Games
  • Release date: March 27, 2018
  • Last seen: June 11, 2018
  • Cost when available: $3.99 as part of the Rogue Agent Starter Pack

Rogue Agent may be well known, as it was the first skin released with a Starter Pack, but it is also incredibly rare. Starter Packs are bought directly, rather than using V-Bucks as the middleman. A part of this rarity stems from the fact that Rogue Agent has not been seen since 2018.

Fortnite skins from Starter Packs also tend to be rarer as they only come with these packs, but Rogue Agent is a bit of a special case. It is particularly rare, as it hasn’t been seen since the year it was released. Given how long it’s been, chances are, Rogue Agent won’t be returning in any capacity, any time soon.

4. Reflex

Reflex from Fortnite
Reflex isn’t as rare as it once was, but it is still up there as one of the rarest Fortnite skins / Image credit Epic Games
  • Release date: November 29, 2018
  • Last seen: March 4, 2019
  • Cost when available: 1,200 V-Bucks

Reflex was released all the way back in 2018 as an exclusive bonus for those who bought eligible Nvidia GeForce GPUs at the time, making it extremely rare. This rarity dropped a tad when it was released by accident on the in-game shop in 2019 for 1,200 V-Bucks.

This still makes the skin remarkably rare, since it hasn’t been seen in Fortnite this decade. As of writing, the skin hasn’t appeared in the game for over 2,500 days, which is close to seven years. Those who have the skin would have had to be playing for that period of time.

3. World Warrior

World Warrior from Fortnite
This celebratory skin was only available over a weekend in July 2019, and it hasn’t been seen since / Image credit: Epic Games
  • Release date: July 26, 2019
  • Last seen: July 28, 2019
  • Cost when available: 800 V-Bucks

The World Warrior skin is yet another old cosmetic, released in 2019 for the Fortnite World Cup Finals. While it hasn’t been seen since mid-2019, this alone isn’t what makes the skin so rare. It was only available for three days that year (July 26 to July 29), and hasn’t been seen since.

This is one of the most limited runs in the item shop a skin has ever had, and even if you played the game in 2019, you would have had to play it on three specific days just to get the skin. Because the skin revolves around a specific theme, it probably won’t ever return to the Fortnite shop.

2. Honor Guard

Honor Guard from Fortnite
Released with one of the more obscure smartphone brands, Honor Guard is an extremely rare Fortnite skin / Image credit: Epic Games
  • Release date: December 6, 2018
  • Last seen: When the Honor View20 was discontinued (around 2021)
  • Cost when available: $445 / £350 (cost of the Honor View20 at launch in US and UK)

Honor Guard was a skin that could only be earned by those who had already made an expensive purchase, as it was exclusive to the HONOR View20 smartphone. It was not available in the shop at any point, so players had to buy a device that cost anywhere from $450 to $600 at the time if they wanted the skin.

The HONOR View20 isn’t exactly a renowned device either, making it even less likely to come across this skin in Fortnite.

1. Galaxy

Galaxy from Fortnite
Galaxy is another skin that required a very expensive purchase to obtain, making it one of the rarest Fortnite skins / Image credit: Epic Games
  • Release date: August 10, 2018
  • Last seen: Likely 2019, when the devices could no longer be bought in new condition
  • Cost when available: $649 / $599 (Galaxy Tab S4); $999 / £899 (Galaxy Note 9)

Galaxy was another hardware-exclusive skin that could only be earned by players who purchased one of two Samsung devices. Those who bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 or a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 in 2018 could redeem the Galaxy skin, but this was an incredibly costly investment.

In 2018, these devices ranged from around $650 to almost $1250 (depending on the storage capacity and cellular capabilities). Those who had no plans to purchase one of these devices would have to do so for this skin, which seems unlikely, making Galaxy the rarest Fortnite skin ever on record, at least until something else even more elusive comes along.

Conclusion

These are just a few of the extremely rare Fortnite skins that are currently impossible to obtain. While some of these skins are more noteworthy than others, and thus easier to spot, some will probably be seen once in a blue moon.

If you’re one of the lucky few who have access to these rare skins, feel free to show them off, but also be sure to protect your account to avoid losing them. There is a chance that these skins will never return to Fortnite, and you might not be able to ever get them back if they are lost.
