Poland-based esports and gaming company Kinguin has announced details about its upcoming Kinguin Legends event, a CS:GO tournament featuring well-known players from the game’s history.
Former CS:GO professionals Pasha, NEO, Edward, HeatoN, kennyS, and Maikelele will build their own teams and compete for a share of the €50,000 (~£43,000) prize pool this September.
Kinguin is best-known for its video game and ecommerce marketplace, but also runs a prominent bootcamp location in Warsaw, the Kinguin Esports Performance Center.
The company also owns the Kinguin Esports Lounge in Gdansk. The brand has sponsored teams and fielded CS:GO and Dota 2 rosters under its own name in the past.
The Kinguin Legends tournament is described by Kinguin as an “entertainment-first” tournament that aims to return former legends of the sport to competitive play. Each of the players involved will recruit other players to play with, but all players must be over 26 years of age.
Kinguin also noted that the rules will be modified to highlight the captains and focus on old rivalries.
Some of the best-known CS:GO players will act as captains for the tournament, with Major winners Jarosław ‘pashaBiceps’ Jarząbkowski and Filip ‘NEO’ Kubski from Virtus Pro’s notorious “Golden Five” lineup.
They’ll be joined by one of the best Counter-Strike 1.6 players and SK Gaming and NiP veteran Emil ‘HeatoN’ Christensen. Mikail ‘Maikelele’ Bill, Major winner Kenny ‘kennyS’ Schrub, and Natus Vincere legend Ioann ‘Edward’ Sukhariev will also captain their own teams.
Kinguin Legends Captain and ex-CS:GO professional Jarosław ‘pashaBiceps’ Jarząbkowski commented: “I am very happy to be able to participate in the Kinguin Legends project. This is a great initiative that will definitely allow us to feel the emotions associated with the great CS:GO scene again. I’m looking forward to the duels with NEO, Edward, HeatoN, kennyS and Maikelele. It will be a great show!”
