Game developer Riot Games has announced a partnership with Spanish regional government Junta de Andalucía for 2023 VALORANT Champions.
As a result, the government’s Department of Tourism, Culture, and Sports will promote the region of Andalucía during the season-ending VALORANT event.
During the event, the tourism brand of Andalucía will be featured in the English broadcast feed. Its logo will appear during broadcasts, which officially started on August 6th and will run until August 26th.
The partnership with Riot Games marks Junta de Andalucía’s first foray into the esports industry. Notably, the region is home of Spanish esports organisation Giants Gaming, one of 16 teams competing in VALORANT Champions.
VALORANT Champions sees the top teams from Riot Games’ three VCT franchised leagues, and top Chinese organisations, compete for a chance to become the champion and earn a share of its $2.25m (~£1.77m) prize pool.
Junta de Andalucía becomes the 11th partner of VALORANT Champions. It joins the likes of telecommunications company Verizon and energy drinks brand Red Bull on its roster.
Ahead of the event, Riot Games revealed its second VALORANT Masters tournament will head to Shanghai in 2024.
Eva Suárez, Head of Esports Partnerships EMEA at Riot Games, spoke on the deal: “We’re thrilled to partner with Junta de Andalucía for VALORANT Champions, integrating their logo into the English broadcast for the biggest VALORANT event of the year.
“With a variety of cities, sandy beaches, villages, mountain ranges, a strong music scene and great local cuisine, Andalucía is a fantastic destination for esports fans across the continent that will be looking to enjoy a relaxing holiday following the conclusion of VALORANT Champions.”
