The RLCS, Rocket League’s official esports tournament circuit, has added 10 new organisations to the title’s in-game ‘Esports Shop’ for the upcoming competitive season.
Among the list of new teams are Gentle Mates, M80, OG, KRÜ Esports and Ninjas In Pyjamas. The likes of Elevate, Rule One, Rebellion, Pioneers and Limitless complete the list of new entrants into Rocket League’s newly updated in-game shop.
Each organisation, including the existing 21 teams, will have a new Octane decal, Fennec decal, Dominus decal and player banner.
Alongside the organisations’ brands being featured on the in-game cars, some of the teams’ sponsors are also present on the decals. This includes Team Vitality’s partner Credit Agricole, Complexity and Lonovo Legion, and Gen.G’s naming rights sponsor Mobil 1.
Launched in 2019, Rocket League’s Esports Shop provides revenue-sharing opportunities for selected teams competing in the RLCS. When fans buy a selected team’s decal, the revenue is shared 70/30 between Psyonix and the organisation respectively.
How Psyonix chooses which esports organisations are selected for decals has never been fully revealed. The announcement of the 10 new teams also sparked online discourse from Gamin Gladiator’s Co-founder Nick Cuccovillo surrounding the selection process.
On X, he stated: “Despite our significant two-plus years of dedicated investment in the APAC region—where trust was initially hard to come by, but we diligently followed all guidelines and remained committed since day one—there hasn’t been a single mention or acknowledgement internally.”
The RLCS 2024 season is already underway with qualifiers across the circuit’s competitive regions (Europe, North America, Oceania, South America, MENA, Asia-Pacific and Sub-Saharan Africa) commencing. In total, 16 teams will compete in RLCS’ first Major of the year in March. The exact location of the event has yet to be revealed.
