Hong Kong-based esports organisation TALON Esports has officially expanded in Europe with the establishment of a new base in Malta.

According to the organisation via social media, Malta was selected due to its ‘supportive business policies’, the government’s support of esports and ‘quality of life for players and staff.’

TALON Esports noted that these factors will allow the company to support its teams with resources, such as boot camps and player development. Moreover, the expansion aims to foster long-term growth to strengthen its position in Europe and the wider esports industry.

TALON Esports’ expansion into Europe was also done in collaboration with the independent non-profit foundation GamingMalta. The organisation highlighted that the collaboration has provided TALON with the infrastructure and resources to establish operations, ensuring a smoother launch process. The collaboration also saw GamingMalta connect TALON with stakeholders to streamline the onboarding experience.

According to the announcement, TALON Esports will focus on team operations while also seeking opportunities in academies, education and content creation, among other areas.

Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Hong Kong, TALON Esports fields teams across various game titles, including League of Legends, VALORANT, Dota 2, Arena of Valor, Rainbow Six Siege, PUBG Mobile, Street Fighter, Tekken 8 and Starcraft 2.

By covering eight markets in the Asian Pacific region, the company has secured a notable portfolio of partners, having worked with football club Paris-Saint Germain, furniture company Secretlab, streetwear boutique Carniva, gaming hardware company ThundeRobot, and energy drink brand Monster Energy.

The company is also known for forming several strategic partnerships with the web3 space, having worked with blockchain company Perion Labs and the NFT MOBA game Apeiron

“Recognising Malta’s unique advantages, TALON selected the country after an in-depth analysis of potential locations,” said the organisation in its official announcement on LinkedIn.

“Malta quickly emerged as an ideal base for its supportive business ecosystem, proactive government support, and exceptional quality of life for players and staff. With a vision to strengthen its presence in Europe, TALON aims to leverage these factors to bring value not only to its teams but also to the broader esports industry.
