Game developer MOONTON Games has announced plans to develop an esports ecosystem for its new multiplayer auto battler title Magic Chess: Go Go.
The announcement, made at the M6 Summit in Malaysia, details the developer’s ambitions to host regional esports tournaments and activations for the mobile game.
Esports tournaments for Magic Chess: Go Go will initially start in Indonesia next year, before gradually expanding to the rest of Southeast Asia.
In the announcement, the developer also revealed that it is collaborating with multiple streaming platforms to develop a ‘vibrant’ community for the title. At the industry conference, MOONTON noted that influencers and content creators will play a large role in the developer’s attempts to cultivate key opinion leaders (KOLS) for the upcoming title.
MOONTON’s attempt to foray into the auto battler genre intends to diversify its current esports offerings which are headlined by Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.
Recently, MOONTON partnered with The Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) to develop new policies and practices that bolster the integrity of the mobile esports ecosystem. In November, the MLBB developer also teased that a new esports title was in the works at mobile game awards, the Mobies.
Magic Chess was first introduced as a game mode within Mobile Legends: Bang Bang in 2020. Since its release, the mode has soared in popularity, prompting the developer to launch it as a standalone title outside of MLBB. Notably, MOONTON is also conducting an exhibition show match for the title at the venue of the M6 World Championship in Malaysia.
After soft-launching in Malaysia and Singapore, the multiplayer strategy game is slated to arrive in Asia-Pacific in early 2025. In November, MOONTON claimed that the title surpassed over 8m pre-registers.
