Magic Chess: Go Go unveils first esports event following launch in APAC

Multiplayer auto battler title Magic Chess: Go Go (MCGG) has announced its first esports event after officially launching in APAC earlier today.

The Magic Chess: Go Go Indonesia Community Tournament will invite 512 players to compete for a $5100 (~£4000) prize pool from March 7th-16th.

MCGG’s first tournament will be held online but is set to have a live broadcast during the semi-finals on March 14th and 15th and the final on March 16th. Moreover, the game’s developer, MOONTON Games, revealed that the top 16 participants who want to become MCGG streamers will receive livestream traffic support from the company after the event’s conclusion.

Registration for the competition will be open to players from Indonesia between February 27th and March 4th via its dedicated website.

Magic Chess: Go Go is a mobile auto battler title published by the creators of popular game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. The game is set in the universe of MOONTON’s flagship title.

As of today, MCGG is available on iOS and Android in Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang was published in 2016 and has since grown a significant esports following, especially within the Southeast Asian region. The M6 World Championship, the 2024 edition of MLBB’s largest annual competition, peaked at 4.13m viewers according to esports data platform Esports Charts.

Magic Chess: Go Go’s esports ecosystem

In December last year, MOONTON Games revealed its esports ambitions for the new mobile title, which included the development of an esports ecosystem.

According to the announcement, MCGG tournaments will gradually expand across Southeast Asia following the game’s launch.

“MCGG has huge potential to be an esports title; its focus on skill, strategy, and real-time decision-making makes it excellent for competition. Additionally, MCGG’s single-player format means the participation cost and barriers are much lower than many other esports titles,” shared Gao ‘Skyhook’ Chong, MCGG Producer at MOONTON Games.

He continued: “In MCGG, anyone can be a champion! We will focus on developing the competitive ecosystem, starting with the MCCT ID, so that aspiring esports athletes have the opportunity to pursue their ambitions.”
