Liga Pro Gaming (LPG), a professional esports league in Peru devised by Live Media, is expanding into Bolivia, Chile, and Colombia.
Liga Pro Gaming’s competitive offering involves Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Fortnite, Clash Royale, Rocket League, Street Fighter V StarCraft: Remastered and rFactor 2. The league’s expansion will also see the addition of League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, and Rainbow Six Siege, bringing LPG’s lineup to a total of 10 titles.

According to a report by Esports Bureau, Movistar Liga Pro Gaming’s Latin American expansion will begin operations in less than two months, and a further expansion to Mexico and Costa Rica is in the works. Newzoo estimates that Latin America is host to over 45 million esports viewers as of 2019, an increase of 17.5 percent year over year. Movistar only owns the naming sponsor rights in Peru – other countries will have their own independent sponsorship deal.
Live Media founded Liga Pro Gaming in 2017 as the first dedicated esports league in its native Peru. The company joined forces with Spanish-language telecommunication giant Movistar in late 2019, which became a title sponsor of tournaments from that point forward.

Movistar continues the trend of telecommunication companies sponsoring and even creating their own esports ventures. As such, the Spanish brand fields eight teams called the Movistar Riders including an all-female team called Movistar Riders Blue.
Other brand partners working with Liga Pro Gaming, according to its website, include Doritos, Lenovo, AXE, O’Frut beverage company, amateur online gaming tournament site First Blood, Cineplanet theaters, UK English learning site Británico, and betting site Rivalry.
Esports Insider says: Latin America is one of the fastest-growing regions in the world for esports in terms of viewership and revenue, making Movistar’s investment into Liga Pro Gaming and its subsequent expansion a potentially wise move. As 5G becomes more prominent worldwide, it will be interesting to see what role telecoms and their teams will play.
