The partnership will also see NRG’s ‘The Grid’ broadcast now be presented by the insurance firm.

Brett Lautenbach, President of NRG Esports, spoke on the partnership in a release: “We’re thrilled to bring The General into the world of esports and NRG. Coming in as the entitlement partner of our historic Rocket League team is such a natural fit for The General. We’re excited that they will be a part of our journey towards another World Championship title.”

Fans will be able to see The General NRG, and the team’s new jerseys, during the Rocket League Championship Series Season X North America Major, which is set to commence on May 22nd.

NRG part-owner and basketball legend, Shaquille O’Neal, added: “The explosion of the esports industry has been really exciting, and it’s just getting started. Both The General and NRG connect with similar audiences, so a partnership here is a natural fit. I can’t wait to watch it come to life.”

According to the release, the agreement is a part of both parties’ efforts to ‘drive significant growth relative to the industry’. Additionally, both entities will collaborate to produce unspecified fan-focused activations in the future.

We’re incredibly thankful that Shaquille recognised the clear alignment between the two brands and was instrumental in bringing us all together for this partnership.”

Esports Insider says: To enter the industry by partnering with NRG Esports’ Rocket League team is a solid choice by The General, as it is one of the most prominent teams on the current Rocket League esports scene.
