Energy drink brand Monster Energy has signed a new multi-year partnership with UK university esports body National Student Esports (NSE) to help support the UK’s grassroots gaming community.

As a long-standing partner that dates back to 2019, Monster Energy will continue to be the official energy drink partner of the British University Esports Championship (BUEC).

The brand will be featured in NSE’s community clip competition ‘Monster Plays’, with the winner gaining access to a year’s supply of Monster Energy. Additionally, Monster Energy will be present alongside NSE at the Insomnia Gaming Festival, which will take place at the end of March in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Alongside Monster Energy, NSE has collaborated with various commercial brands over the last 12 months, including UNiDAYSIntel, and DrayTek. Towards the end of 2023, NSE teamed up with hardware supplier Scan Computers, announcing a new competition to be launched following the end of the BUEC Spring Season.

With over 2,200 teams and 111 universities competing across 15,000 matches in the past academic year, BUEC is a major focal point in the university esports ecosystem. Students compete across different game titles, including VALORANT, Teamfight Tactics, Rocket League, League of Legends, Overwatch 2, Rainbow Six Siege, Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2 and Apex Legends.

Alex Coulson, Managing Director at NSE, commented: The love for Monster Energy in our community is off the charts.

“The amount of chat in our NSE Discord channel about the best flavour is intense, Mango Loco should be number one if you ask me, but ultimately it’s all down to a community and partner that work so well together.”

Aside from NSE stating that the deal is a multi-year renewal, further details surrounding the partnership’s length have not been disclosed.
