Indian esports tournament organiser Skyesports has announced the upcoming Skyesports Championship 2024 for Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI).
The LAN stage of the tournament will take place at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium in Bangalore on December 14th and 15th.
Prior to the final LAN event, Skyesports will hold open qualifiers to include grassroots talent. Interested players aged 16+ who reside in India can already register for the championship via Skyesports’ Discord server.
Additional information regarding the prize pool, schedule and LAN venue are expected to be revealed soon across the organiser’s social media.
The Skyesports Championship for BGMI was established in 2019 and has since become India’s longest-running homegrown esports IP. Following the removal of BGMI from Google Play Store and App Store, the competition was cancelled for 2022. However, the IP continued in 2023 with the game’s return to the Indian market.
According to Esports Charts, last year’s edition saw 62,041 peak viewers, featuring a prize pool of 12.5m INR (~£115,000).
Founded in 2018, Skyesports has organised multiple esports tournaments across its 15 IPs, such as the Skyesports Pro League and Streamer Showdown. The company has previously partnered with bookmaker 1xBET, EA Sports and esports betting services provider Oddin.gg.
This year, the tournament organiser made several changes to its 2024 Counter-Strike 2 Skyesports Masters event. Skyesports first announced the move away from the previous franchised league structure and later moved the event entirely online.
In regards to BGMI, Skyesports also hosted the Skyesports League 2024, a city-based circuit in Mumbai, earlier this year.
